The Beauty Scenario

Lily Pebbles started this tag at the beginning of the year. I've read and watched (on youtube) this tag so many times on different platforms and thought why not do one too. Tags are a great way of meeting other beauty bloggers and discovering staple products in their stash.

1. You have to get rid of all your foundations, and only keep one high-end and one drugstore, which do you keep?

I used to use L'oreal Paris True Match- which had really good coverage for a drugstore foundation but that was a while back. Since then, I haven't really got on well with any drugstore foundations. They are either way too orange/dark or too light. For high end, my favourites are Make up Forever HD Foundation and Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Foundation- both have amazing coverage!

2. You go for an interview and the lady interviewing you has lipstick on her teeth. Do you approach the subject or ignore it completely?

This is a bit of a tricky one. Interviews tend to make me super nervous so I would try to avoid it as much as I can. Depending on how the conversation is flowing, I could maybe slip it in- that way she'd remember me later on and maybe even get the job.

3. Your not feeling yourself and you need a pick me up lipstick, which do you go for?

I think the perfect 'pick me up' lipstick would have to be bold and really out there. The one I'm currently obsessing over is Topshop Lipstick in Wicked.

4. You go back in time for a day to your teenage years, how would you do your hair and makeup differently?

My hair is super thin right now and I'm guessing it's all down to the crazy backcombing I did during school days. I backcombed everywhere I went- during lessons, in the playground, at the school salon and even in the corridors (beehive heaven). I wish I didn't do it!

Makeup-wise, I'm not that crazy over liquid liners now, however, back then my liner would end all the way near my hair line no joke. I would also do the full on cat liner going all the way around my eyes- which never did suit me- oh gawd!

5. You ask your hairdresser for a shoulder length Pixie Lott hair cut but they hear wrong and give you a pixie hair cut. Do you a) smile, say thank you, leave and call your mum and cry hysterically b) cry in the chair and things get awkward or c) complain to the manager and demand a refund.

I am definitely the one with the foul mouth in my family- I get it from my mama. I would be complaining and shouting my mouth off to the manager for sure, and then tweet it, instagram it.. lol just kidding!

6. Your friend surprises you with a 4 day city break and you have 1 hour to pack. Which 'do it all' palette do you pack in your makeup bag?

It has to be Make up Revolution Flawless Palette! It has a mix of some gorgeous shimmer, matte and highlight shades. It's also a complete bargain so if it broke or got lost during my break, it wouldn't bother me.

7. Your house has been robbed, don't worry everyone is safe, but your beauty stash has been raided. What's the product you really hope is safe?

Firstly, why a burglar would want to burgle my house for my makeup I don't know (damn hater). But I would hate for my lipstick collection to be stolen! I've been collecting them for years now and there some lippys that aren't sold anymore such as Revlon Mauve It Over and Sleek Lipstick in Succumb- both different shades of nude!

8. Your friend borrows your makeup and returns it in an awful condition. Do you a) just pretend you haven't noticed b) ask them to repurchase it or c) secretly do the same to something of theirs.

It's just makeup, nothing to hold a grudge over so I would talk about it and let them know and use it as an excuse to go makeup shopping...yayyyyyyy!

What's In My Bag

Although my bag is always full of receipts, besides that, I thought I would put together the things I carry with me when I am out and about. I've had my Longchamp bag for a while now, the quality is amazing! It's chic, waterproof and to me it's like a Mary Poppins bag, I can keep filling it up with my things but it never gets full. The bag is super handy and the perfect size for me.

The Power of Accessories

Accessorising can dress up any outfit, changing it up from day wear to night wear. Back in the days, I always thought accessories were only based around jewellery. No, there are so many things we wear and use on a day-to-day basis to pair with our outfits and make them look the best!

Here are my picks!

P R I N T E D   S C A R F

Zara £25.99

Reversible scarves have taken over in the accessories section this season! I got a little out of control when they came out in all these different colours- I ended up purchasing a little too many. This one is definitely one of my favourites, its super soft, oversized and has a lovely chic dogtooth print on one side and mixed grey on the other. I love pairing mine with leather jackets and long duster coats.

M I D I   R I N G S

New Look (Assorted) £1.99-£3.99

Stacking up midi rings is a great way to add a little edge to an outfit (or hands?). There is no right or wrong way to wear them, the great thing about these is you can create your own look with as many or as little rings as you like. However, they should look balanced and not OTT. They are available in different colours (rose gold, bronze, silver, black) from your usual high street stores.

F A U X   F U R   H E A D B A N D S

River Island £12.00

I was on the hunt for a faux fur Cossack hat but the ones I tried were way too big so I went for the alternative. These headbands are a perfect winter accessory to keep my ears and head warm. They are also great for keeping my hair in place when it's windy. They are available in different colours to match the colour of your hair if you prefer. I like to pair my headband with a parka, my hair out and a bold lippy.

B L A C K   B A G

Topshop £35.00

A statement black bag can transform any outfit, however big or small. A bag not only represents the outfit but it also represents you! It should be something durable, something that can be easily paired with any outfit and something that people talk about (I'm sure you've had the 'omg where is that bag from!' convo so many times). I love the gold detailing on this one, and it even comes with a handy strap.

W A T C H

Ernest Jones (gift)

Just like bags, oversized watches are great for dressing up an outfit. Although big watches look quite masculine, since the big craze over Michael Kors Rose Gold watch, the word masculine went straight out the window. I love the pinky/salmon face on this one, very feminine and chic (can you tell I'm a bit obsessed with the word chic?). Anyways, I like wearing mine loose so it falls on my wrist like a bracelet.

C L A S S I C   B R A C E L E T

Swarovski (gift)

I never really was a bracelet fan but I was converted straight away when I was given this. I'm not quite sure if it was the Swarovski name or the rose gold obsession I was going through at the time. Although I love pairing this up with a plain jane dress and fancy nails, I do get worried that a diamond may fall out so I don't show it off as much as I should be.. silly paranoia!

G L O V E S

Topshop £22.00

There's not much to say about gloves. Gloves are just gloves right? I do love detailing and there are some nice laser cut ones available in Topshop now. This pair has a warm fleece lining and a cuffed wrist. They are a perfect fit for my small hands and are touch screen friendly, so no taking off to use my phone in the cold/rain- yay!

S U N G L A S S E S

Urban Outfitters £18.00

People wear shades during any season here in London. It's always good to have a classic pair handy, the sun might come out of nowhere, especially when you're in the car! Shades suit everyone and there are so many different styles and colours to match yourself with. The wayfarer shape is my favourite and obviously the gold detailing like this one.

S T A T E M E N T   N E C K L A C E

Primark £4.00

Statement necklaces have been trending for quite a while now. I see it in every high street store ranging from £2-£35 (maybe more, maybe less). Like bags and watches it can transform any outfit. A statement necklace is available in different shapes, colours, sizes depending on preference. I love pairing mine with plain tops, dresses and jumpers. For an even more statement look, you can stack up the different chain length necklaces.

Lush Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub

Ok... so I guess I've definitely become a Lushaholic! Every time I pass the Lush store, the smell lures me in and I end up leaving with something! As the winter days are here, I was looking for
something to keep my body moisturised but first I needed to get rid of the dry layer.

Lush Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub  |  £8.75

"An exfoliating shower scrub that can also be used to wash, volumise and add shine to har. Packed with mineral-rich sea salt, Run Rub Rub can be used as a gentle scrub on wet skin, or on dry skin for a really good buff before you get in the shower."

I was recommended a weird looking, citrusy/floral scented, electric blue shower scrub called Rub Rub Rub. It's full of fine sea salt for gentle exfoliation and fresh organic lemon juice which is great for refreshing and rejuvenating the skin. Like our face, our body needs to be exfoliated to remove the dry and dead epidermis layer.

The scrub can be used on dry skin or wet skin- I like to use it under the shower focusing on my arms, neck and legs although you do get extra exfoliation when scrubbed onto dry skin. Believe it or not although the product is full of salt, it can be used a shampoo- the sea salt is great for balancing out natural oils.

The results I got were amazing!! While washing off the salts with warm water, you can feel the difference in your skin straight away. My skin felt super soft, smooth and moisturised. It's not a harsh exfoliator at all so it is great for all skin types. A little also goes a long way!

Have you tried Rub Rub Rub?

Topshop Lips in Wicked, Really is Wicked

As an ever growing lipstick hoarder, I've heard some great reviews on Topshop lipsticks so I just had to check them out for myself.  I remember Sammi from Beautycrush obsessing over this gorgeous colour few months ago and boyy it is definitely a colour to obsess over!

Topshop Lips in Wicked

"Creamy finish lipstick to smooth, moisturise and nourish lips."

It's a rich, bold purple/burgandy colour- a staple for any girls makeup stash, to be worn any time of the year (especially during these cold winter months). It has a creamy and moisturising texture which enables an easy application.

It is super pigmented and as it's a dark colour, I used my favourite dark lip liner underneath to prevent bleeding and smudges. You can also apply the lipstick with a lip brush for a neat application.

The lipstick has a velvety finish (slightly on a sheen side) however you can pat in some loose powder if you prefer a matte finish. It did last all day on my lips (roughly 9 hours), I ate and drank without any touch ups. It does stain the lip which can either be a good thing (will stay on longer) or a bad thing (a pain to take off).

I will definitely be trying out other colours.

Bronze Me Up: LIMITED EDITION

Who doesn't love an easy-peasy glitzy/glam nail look for the party season? I thought I would share my favourite look using affordable drugstore nail lacquers. It is important to use a base coat before applying any coloured lacquers to prevent dark colours from staining the nails and to encourage the lacquers to stay on longer.

What's your favourite party nails?

Lush THE COMFORTER Bubble Bar

This has got to be my favourite ever Lush bath product! The proof is in its name- it isn't called 'The Comforter' for no reason, it really is super comforting. A great pick me up, after a long stressful day and perfect for the cold winter nights we have right now in London.

Lush The Comforter Bubble Bar  |  £4.75  |  Lush

"Sometimes you just need to shut yourself off from the outside world under a blanket of fruity foam that will put you back in the right frame of mind to face the world."

When I was in the bath section at Lush, I could smell this distinctive scent straight away. It smells like bubblegum- I reckon its a bubble bar version of Snow Fairy Shower Gel (review here). It's extremely big, lasts ages and a little goes a long way so you can get about 5-6 baths out of it depending on how generous you are when crumbling bits into your bath.

I crumbl a little under my running tap and let it mix with the water and do its magic. The smell is so strong it went all the way down my corridor. The fruity scent even lingered on my skin for a good 5-6 hours.

Like all lush products, even this has its own skin benefits;

cassis absolute: comforting and fruity scent
bergamot oil: uplifting and cleansing
cypress oil: calming, relaxing and strengthens muscles

It does turn a lovely pink colour (don't worry it doesn't stain) and produces lots of bubbles which don't disappear or dissolve. It is very relaxing and I will definitely be purchasing again!

What's your favourite lush bath product(s)?

Brows Have Left The Building

Death by plucking! Where do I start? When I first started grooming my brows, or shall I say 'shaping' my brows, it was such an exciting transition for me, I was a serial over-plucker (these people still exist lol). During school days, I remember over plucking them so much I was left with a line in the shape of an umbrella (no joke!)

I was a girl who was learning- that's my excuse! I can't remember what, when or who knocked sense into me and I began my journey to grow these babies out. It was a long, long wait but so worth it! Eyebrows frame the face in such an obvious way that when eyebrow shapes are changed, the whole face changes.
T O P  T I P S on growing your brows!

1: Throw away (or put away) your tweezers, brow wax strips, thread- which ever you use. You will need to stop plucking and waxing- hairy brows are the way to go now (as seen on the runway)

2: Use brow growth serums. There are many available in the market right now:

Natural castor oil can also be used as a cheaper alternative, remember to be consistent

3: Exfoliate the brow area with a soft toothbrush at least 3 times a week

4: Use a brow pencil or powder on a light hand, to fill in sparse areas as you wait

5: If they fail to grow, you can tint your brows professionally (permanent or semi-permanent)

6: LET THEM GROW!

Affordable Skincare and Bodycare

It's always important to have a strict skincare regime as well as skin-loving products for the body. I don't think it's always necessary to spend lots of money to have good skin. The products I will be mentioning is great for people who are new to skincare regimes or want to learn about products they've not used.

My winter skin: combination/dry, blemish prone

Botanics All Bright Cleansing Cream  |  £3.99

"This creamy cleanser sweeps away make up, oil and impurities without drying, leaving the skin soft and brighter looking."

Although I love love love my holy grail Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish (review here), I sometimes reach for the Botanics All Bright Cleansing Cream on the days I am wearing minimal makeup or no makeup at all. The cleansing cream does a great job of removing light makeup, leaving it feeling soft and moisturised. It contains Hibiscus which is great for controlling acne breakouts and encouraging fresher and younger looking skin.

Botanics All Bright Soothing Eye Makeup Remover  |  £3.99

"The clear oil phase effectively sweeps away impurities and make up, including waterproof formulations. The aqueous phase is given its colour by hibiscus, and helps to soothe the eye area and condition lashes."

I have never really noticed the brightness effect to this eye makeup remover. However, it does the job of removing all traces of makeup (including waterproof). Retailing at only £3.99, there's no complaining from me.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Cool and Creamy Wash  |  £5.00

"Cool new cleansing sensation is the perfect wake-up call for blemished skin."

Since my acne breakout, I've always been on the hunt for an affordable, effective face wash that wouldn't break me out. This has a lovely creamy texture which feels so good on the skin. I saw improvement in my skin within a few days of using this amazing face wash consistently. This is great for sensitive and breakout-prone skin.

St Ives Blemish Fighting Facial Scrub  |  £4.29

"Only St Ives captures the secrets of naturally beautiful and healthy looking skin in this deep cleansing formula that gently exfoliates, removing oil, dirt and dull skin cells that can lead to blackheads and blemishes."

When I first started using this I thought it was quite aggressive on my skin. However, after a couple months of constant use I've realised although there are so many grains in this product, it didn't have a bad affect on my skin at all. Instead, it has done a perfect job of exfoliating every last bit of dead skin on the top layer leaving it feeling soft and smooth.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear 2 in 1 Wash and Mask  |  £3.79

"Neutrogena Visibly Clear 2 in 1 Wash and Mask is a unique cleanser that can be used in two different ways to help keep skin looking clear and healthy."

I reach for this product once a week and use it as a mask before bed. I leave it on for 8-10 minutes and as it dries I feel a cooling sensation on my skin. The mask gets deep into the skin, cleansing away excess oil, dirt and makeup- it works great on those nasty spots that hurt because it will encourage it to dry out faster. My face definitely feels softer and smoother after every application.

Lush Tea Tree Toner Water  |  £4.25/£7.95

"Keep skin clear and refreshed. Tea tree is antibacterial, antifungal and antimicrobial, so can help keep away the bacteria that can cause spots."

My obsession with Lush products is forever growing! I've had this toner for a while and have been using it every morning and night before bed. It feels super refreshing and during the summer months when my skin is combination/oily, it does a great job of controlling the excess oils. I usually spray it directly onto my face and then rub it in or spray onto a cotton pad and wipe onto my face. Great for blemish prone skin!

Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion  |  £5.49
"This unique formula is clinically proven to go beyond 24 hour moisturisation and replenish the skin's natural barrier function, to significantly improve the condition of dry skin in just 2 weeks.

Since the cold winter has hit us, my usual oily/combo skin has become dry in certain areas of my face. The lotion is a lovely, thick barrier to protect the skin from the cold and keep it moisturised for the whole day. It's also a great base for foundation as it absorbs really quickly leaving my skin feeling soft and smooth. It can also be used on the body.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Reviver  |  £15.00

"This instant radiance-booster refreshes and smoothes skin and enhances its natural glow."

This stuff is amazing!! It has a citrus scent and I use this either as a primer (after moisturising, before foundation) or as a night time moisturiser- either way this silky serum makes my skin feel ahhh-mazing! It is a bit on the pricey side but a little goes a long way, I only need a pea size to cover my face. It can also be used on its own, it is very lightweight and although it's a matte finish, it leaves a lovely glow.

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel  |  £3.75/£7.50/£11.95

"Add some Christmas sparkle to your day with this candy-sweet shower gel. Snow Fairy is back again this year, bringing its fairy dust magic into your shower, now with the addition of skin-softening seaweed."

Every year, Lush release the Snow Fairy shower gel as part of their christmas limited edition range. It does have a sickly sweet bubblegum scent to it but the more I smell it, the more I want to use it- weird much? The shower gel leaves my skin feeling soft, refreshed and the scent even lingers on my skin for a few hours. A great reason to look forward to christmas with Lush!
